    • see government action as a POSITIVE FORCE to solve societal problems, right wrongs, and help those in need
    • Accept taxes as a way to pay for programs that improve our lives
    • Believe that government action is needed to achieve equal opportunity for all people and protect civil rights
    • Emphasizes the role of a person's environment in shaping his/her actions

    • Believe that government action should be LIMITED to key functions like national defense and roads
    • Think that people, not government, make the best decisions about how to spend their money and live their lives
    • Stress personal responsibility for one's actions and individual liberties
    • Believe in free market capitalism and a more laissez-faire government
    • Emphasizes a person's free will to make good or bad choices

LIBERALS think it's okay for the government to regulate the economy and redistribute money from the rich to the poor. Yet they think it's WRONG for the government to interfere with personal choices/social questions such as abortion or free expression.

Libertarians oppose government interference in BOTH the economy and in people's private lives.
