see government action as a POSITIVE FORCE to solve societal problems, right wrongs, and help those in need
Accept taxes as a way to pay for programs that improve our lives
Believe that government action is needed to achieve equal opportunity for all people and protect civil rights
Emphasizes the role of a person's environment in shaping his/her actions
Conservatives:
Believe that government action should be LIMITED to key functions like national defense and roads
Think that people, not government, make the best decisions about how to spend their money and live their lives
Stress personal responsibility for one's actions and individual liberties
Believe in free market capitalism and a more laissez-faire government
Emphasizes a person's free will to make good or bad choices
CONTRADICTIONS?
LIBERALS think it's okay for the government to regulate the economy and redistribute money from the rich to the poor. Yet they think it's WRONG for the government to interfere with personal choices/social questions such as abortion or free expression.
